Experienced gas grill owners know how great they are for outdoor events, but they also know that they need to be cleaned regularly. By doing this process right, you can maintain a fully functional grill for years, if not decades, to come. So, how do you clean your grill like a pro? Here is a detailed guide that contains all the answers you need.
Grill Cleaning Made Easy
To prepare your grill for cleaning, first make sure the gas is off. Then, use protective, flexible gloves and place the grill on a tarp or some other protective covering. This will stop any debris from getting on the ground, making for easier cleanup. Now open the lid, take the grates out, and place them across a big garbage bin.
Now, you’re ready to spray the inside section of the cook box. To do that, apply a 1-to-10 solution of soap and water to all surfaces. For the flavorizer bar, you should use a putty knife to scrape it clean of soot on each side. Once that is done, the soap and water will have done their job, and you can start scrubbing the upper part of the cook box. Do that using a wire brush. When you are done, there will be debris that you should remove with a vacuum cleaner.
Vacuum All Debris
After your flavorizer bars are clean, you can remove them and put them to the side. Now it is time to clean the burner tubes, again with the help of a wire brush. Brush the sides of the tubes and not along their length. This way, you will not brush debris into the tubes. Now, clean the burner tubes to the side. After that, clean the debris from the bottom of the cook box.
Clean the grates with your trusty putty knife, and the debris will fall into the garbage can you have placed underneath. If the grates are made of porcelain or are enameled, you shouldn’t scrape them at all. Scrub the top of the grates, flip them, and scrub the rest. You should apply a grill cleaner spray, let it sit for several minutes, and then wipe the grates with a fresh towel.
Cleaning the Lower Parts
It is time to clean the lower parts of your gas grill. First, remove the grease collection tray and scrape it clean. Now apply a grill cleaner and wipe it down with a fresh towel. While you are at it, wipe the exterior surfaces of your grill using stainless steel wipes. Areas that require more attention include the top edges of the cabinet doors, side tables, and the front of the cook box. Make sure to vacuum the inside of the grill cabinet and wipe all control knobs.
While cleaning your gas grill, you can use the opportunity to test all igniters and burners. When you are ready, reassemble it and test it to ensure it works as intended!
